The wrestling community is in mourning following the unexpected death of Jax Dane, a former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion and multi-time NWA National Heavyweight Champion. Dane, whose real name was Jeremy Laymon, passed away at the age of 48 on December 25, 2024, due to complications from a heart attack he suffered in late November.
Dane's career in professional wrestling began in 2012 with NWA Houston, where he teamed with Raymond Rowe (now known as Erik of The War Raiders in WWE) under the name The Path of Resistance. He quickly made a name for himself, appearing in NJPW and sharing the ring with talents like KUSHIDA, Shelton Benjamin, and Doc Gallows. In 2015, Dane captured both the NWA National Heavyweight Championship and the NWA World Heavyweight title, holding the latter for an impressive 419 days.
Dane's influence extended beyond the ring. He was known for his dedication to the sport and his fellow wrestlers. NWA owner Billy Corgan praised Dane as a friend, mentor, and professional, emphasizing his loyalty and support in rebuilding the NWA. Fellow wrestlers and industry peers have shared heartfelt tributes on social media, remembering Dane for his kindness, leadership, and passion for wrestling.
Dane is survived by his wife Evelynda Laymon, stepson Nicolas, and father. His legacy in the wrestling world will be remembered for years to come, and his impact on the sport will not be forgotten.
