WWE Releases Several Wrestlers

Sonya Deville entering the ring

WWE
has announced the release of several superstars during the February 7th episode of SmackDown. The news has left fans and industry insiders buzzing with speculation about the future of these talents.

Among the released superstars are Sonya Deville, Paul Ellering, Akam and Rezar (AOP), and Blair Davenport. Deville, who has been with WWE for almost a decade, was informed that her contract will not be renewed. She recently celebrated her 10th WWE anniversary and was part of the Pure Fusion Collective on Raw.

Paul Ellering, a WWE Hall of Famer and manager of AOP, was also let go. Akam and Rezar, known as The Authors of Pain, had a tumultuous journey with WWE, initially being released in 2020 and re-signed in 2022. They were part of the Final Testament faction alongside Karrion Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux.

Blair Davenport, who was called up from NXT last year, struggled to make an impact on the main roster. Her release comes less than eight months after her call-up.

Cedric Alexander, another notable release, announced his departure on social media, expressing gratitude for his time with WWE and hinting at future plans. Alexander, a former WWE Cruiserweight and Raw Tag Team Champion, had been a regular on NXT in recent months.

The sudden releases have sparked speculation about potential moves to rival promotions, with Cedric Alexander possibly heading to All Elite Wrestling. Fans are also curious about the future of other talents who might be affected by these changes.

WWE has not commented on the reasons behind the releases, but it is clear that the company is making significant changes to its roster. The releases come as WWE continues to evolve its programming and talent lineup.

UPDATE: Isla Dawn, The Good Brothers and Giovanni Vinci have also been released.
